"TRÆ" in Aarhus: Sustainability and design
In Aarhus, Denmark’s tallest wooden building, TRÆ, stands as an inspiring example of sustainable and circular construction. With its 78 meters spread over 20 floors, the building has become an icon for green architecture and recycling.
TRÆ is constructed with a load-bearing wooden structure and floors that tell a unique story. The 1500 m² of pine floors are made from recycled window frames that would previously have been waste. These materials have now been transformed into a floor that is both beautiful and sustainable.
Floorcoat HGH Floor Oils and Varnishes
In this project, our products were chosen to oil and varnish the 1500 m² of block floors – made from recycled window frame offcuts – to ensure both an aesthetic and durable finish:
- FC Floor Oil & Primer (Clear): Used as a base treatment that highlighted the natural expression of the wood.
- FC84: A strong surface treatment that added extra wear resistance and resilience.
The floors were treated and installed with great care by skilled professionals, including Granslev Tømrer og Gulventreprise, MS Tømrer, and Kong Høvl, who delivered an impressive piece of craftsmanship.
Focus on Sustainability
TRÆ shows how materials can be given new life through recycling. The building not only integrates recycled elements, but is also designed with a focus on people’s well-being and community. The interaction between innovative solutions and classic building materials makes TRÆ a groundbreaking case in modern construction.
We are proud to have contributed to this project, which unites sustainability and design at the highest level. “Træ” is not just a building – it is a story about how the construction of the future can take responsibility for the environment and create value for society.
